Based on the true story of Siamese twins Violet and Daisy Hilton who became stars during the Depression, Side Show is a moving portrait of two women joined at the hip whose extraordinary bondage brings them fame but denies them love. With book and lyrics by Bill Russell (Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens) and music by Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls), Side Show follows their progression from England to America, around the vaudeville circuit and to Hollywood on the eve of their appearance in the 1932 movie Freaks.

Reviews
Side Show - CLF Art Cafe
His leading performers Lauren Edwards, as Violet, and Katie Beudert, as Daisy, have both enough power and charisma to really sell the score
- The Stage, 5 Oct 2018
As Daisy and Violet, Katie Beudert and Lauren Edwards are very good, ensuring their characters are starkly different; Beudert is wide-eyed and giggly with excitement as she craves a career in show-business while Edwards, hardly smiling, is more cynical about their promised fame. Joined at the waist by their dresses, they are very convincing.

Katie Beudert (Daisy) and Lauren Edwards (Violet) are terrific, and carry the story with great charisma. Beudert perfectly captures Daisy’s starry-eyed effervescence, and, in contrast, Edwards has a purity of vocal quality and control which illuminates Violet’s quieter personality.

The show focuses on Daisy and Violet Hilton, played by Katie Beudert and Lauren Edwards respectively. The show is very demanding on them as they very rarely leave the stage, but both performers seemed to take this in their stride. This twins have very distinct characters, with Daisy the assured twin seeking fame, and Violet the one who longs for nothing more than to settle down at home. This was drawn out wonderfully by Beudert and Edwards.

Lauren Edwards and Katie Beudert have a tough challenge on their hands as the twins First, they need to stick together (quite literally) like glue for the duration and they also need to show that their characters too are pretty-well identical. They manage to pull off those requirements with charming aplomb and their physical characteristics are also well-matched. And their singing is delightful

Gatsby - The Union Theatre
Katie Beudert brings a welcome subtlety to Myrtle's sister Catherine, and also stuns with a tabletop trumpet solo.

The ensemble (especially Lewis Rae as Owl Eyes and Katie Beudert as Catherine) is impeccable, carrying most of the songs with verve and swagger, starting before the play even begins by enchanting the audience as they wait at the bar.

Katie Beudert, who rose above the ensemble showing great versatility; singing, dancing, acting and playing the trumpet;

The whole cast are comprised of actor-musicians and Emma Whittaker, Katie Beudert, Samantha Louise Clark – who make up the female contingent of the ensemble – show great talent as they jump seamlessly between singing, dancing and playing an assortment of instruments – sometimes on stage as well. Their mingling with the audience in the bar area before the show is also a nice touch.

Kudos to the live band, it was an intimate, secret love affair with live music. ... The cast also collaborated to become a big band: Emma Whittaker (Stella) on cello and violin, Joanna Brown (Daisy Buchanan) on clarinet, Nicolas Fagerberg (Jay Gatsby) on guitar, Blair Robertson (Nick Carraway) on saxophone, Katie Beudert (Catherine) on trumpet and Kate Marlais (Jordan Baker) on violin. This surely deserves a round of applause.

CSSD Showcase - Embassy Theatre
"A second Sondheim number gives Katie Beudert the opportunity to shine as a comedy performer. On the Steps Of the Palace allows Beudert to demonstrate, as is vital to any musical theatre performer, the ability to negotiate a strong narrative drive through the medium of song. Beudert’s scene with Antonios Dimitrokalis from A View from the Bridge, too, proved an excellent contrasting choice infusing the scene with a very real sense of longing."
